Missy & Conor {Debordieu Colony Wedding}

At the The Wedding Row we just love over the top gorgeous weddings. But when you add the photographic forte of Marni Rothschild and enlist the crazy talented team at A Charleston Bride…suddenly and magically you have wedding perfection! Special thanks to the oh so gorgeous bride for sharing her inspirations and details.

Conor and I live in Chicago, but we chose to be married at DeBordieu in Georgetown, SC. I am from Atlanta, and Conor is from upstate New York. We knew that the majority of our guests would be traveling, so we wanted a long weekend where our family and friends could really get to know each other. I grew up visiting my grandparents in Pawleys Island, SC, so when I told Conor about the area he immediately thought it was the perfect choice. Most of our guests were from the north, and being a child from the south, I really wanted them to experience a part of the world that I really cherish. I have always loved the big trees with Spanish moss, lowcountry cuisine, and of course the South Carolina coast. It was so great to be able to share this with our closest family and friends. We knew that our wedding required a lot from our guests, but we knew that it would be worth it once they stepped foot in the South Carolina sand. For most people just getting to our wedding involved a combination of planes, trains, and automobiles as we had people traveling from as far as London and Bahrain. We wanted people to be able to relax once they got to DeBordieu, and we wanted our wedding to be elegant but comfortable.

I loved my hair pieces. They were made by a designer in New York, Leah C. Couture Millinery. My bridesmaids dresses were Amsale. When I saw the picture of the dress online, I knew that it would be perfect! Thankfully the salon in Atlanta, carried both Amsale and Rivini. That definitely made the process easier. (You can Amsale at Bella Bridesmaid in Charleston, South Carolina.)

After we decided to have our wedding in May, I knew that peonies would be in season. I loved loved loved my bouquet and all of the florals that Jonie put together. I knew that I really liked the mix of the dark blue fabric along with the white and ivory flowers, and both Carrie and Jonie just did a wonderful job with everything.

The music for our wedding was really special. I heard the Bob Williams Duo online and knew immediately that I had to have them for the wedding. They do both traditional and contemporary music and definitely a treat to listen to. Our band, Loose Chain, was also fantastic. Conor did all of the research for the band and made the final decision, and he could not have picked a better band. They were amazing!!! I remember telling my planner that we wanted to have a six hour reception, because we knew that our friends would love the band and would not want to leave any earlier. This ended up being a great decision, because the dance floor was fully the entire night!

My dress is by Rivini.. I really loved it because, it was a perfect mix of my husband’s taste and mine. He is conservative, and I am a little more adventurous when it comes to fashion. I felt like from the front it was simple and classic, but the back was different and unique. I live in Chicago but purchased my dress in Atlanta, then did my fittings in Chicago, and finally flew down to Charleston with it. Thankfully after all that travel for my dress, I was able to have it pressed at Chris’ Dry Cleaners in Mount Pleasant, and they did a fabulous job!

Being from Chicago, I was able to try on so many beautiful dresses and attend trunk shows throughout the city. I found a Rivini dress that I really liked here in Chicago but could not purchase without my mom and sister seeing it. Since they live in Atlanta, I flew down with one of my bridesmaids to try on the dress and actually ended up finding another Rivini dress that was the one. For me it was a slightly difficult process, because all of the dresses that I tried on were so pretty. I was not sure if I was going to have the feeling of knowing which dress was right for me, but sure enough I did, and I really did not want to take it off.

We were so lucky, because we had the best team of vendors. My planner, Carrie Glasscock from A Charleston Bride, was so wonderful. I sent her pictures for nearly a year, so she really understood my style and what I liked. She added her creativity and beautiful ideas, and we really loved the decor and everything that she did.

I have actually known Conor’s family since I was in the 7th grade. Erinn was one of my best friends growing up and she is Conor’s cousin. After I graduated from college, I moved back to Atlanta and shared an apartment with Erinn. Conor came down from Chicago to visit his family, and Erinn and I decided to have a party at our apartment. That was the night that Conor and I first met, but then of course he had to go back to Chicago. We ended up dating for about a year and a half long distance, but decided at that point that neither one of us wanted to step foot in another airport for a long time. Since we knew that we want to be together, I made the move to Chicago about three years ago….And the rest is blissful history!
